How much does Shopify cost?

Shopify is a paid-for ecommerce platform. The specifics of the costs, however, really depends on the level of service you require and your payment plan.

Shopify offers 3 main plans: Basic Shopify, Shopify, and Advanced Shopify. Typically, these are paid on a month-to-month basis, but you can receive a 10% discount on annual plans and 20% off biennial plans if you pay upfront.

At a glance, this is what you can expect to pay and receive in return:

Basic – £19/month (2022)

This plan is for businesses just starting out. It gives you an online storefront, unlimited products, and 24/7 Shopify support, amongst other features.

The key differences between this plan and the Shopify plan are the following:

  • Only 2 staff accounts
  • Inventory locations limited to 4
  • Basic reporting
  • No ecommerce automation
  • Higher credit card rates

For instance, the external payment credit card rate for Basic is 2% + 25p, while the Shopify plan offers 1.7% + 25p.

Shopify – £49/month (2022)

The Shopify plan offers a more well-rounded service for growing businesses. It ups the 2 staff accounts to 5, inventory locations to 5, and generates more in-depth reporting. The external payment rates are also cheaper, as mentioned above, which is beneficial if you are selling a lot of products.

Advanced – £259/month (2022)

The Advanced plan is for large businesses which require detailed reporting. There are 15 staff accounts, 8 inventory locations, and the credit card rate drops to just 1.5% + 25p. This plan is also the only one which estimates and collects duties and import taxes at checkout to give customers total cost clarity, and gives you custom product pricing per market, too. This means you can choose a fixed price based on a Shopify market. This allows you to overwrite the exchange rate price and make it fixed (charging, for example, £99 in the UK and €120 in Europe).

Free Trial – £0 (3 days)

If you’re not 100% sold on the Shopify experience, you can also try it out for free for 3 days. This feature does not require a credit card (so you won’t be caught by annoying rollover subscriptions) and includes a short quiz which will direct you to the best plan for your specific needs.

If this is of interest to you but you are concerned that 3 days isn’t long enough to get a good feel for the platform, get in touch with us. As Shopify partners, we have the ability to create stores with an unlimited trial.

Non-Profit Organisations – $29/month (2022)

If you run a non-profit organisation, you can be eligible for a discounted Shopify plan. The NPO Lite (matching Shopify Basic most closely) is $29 a month, while NPO Full (matching Shopify Advanced most closely) is $99 a month.

If you find that your current plan is no longer working for you, you can upgrade, downgrade or cancel it at any time. If you need advice on choosing a Shopify plan, or beginning your ecommerce journey, please get in touch with us today. We’re happy to help, and as mentioned above, as Shopify partners, we have the ability to create stores with an unlimited trial.
