Abbeyfield Belfast

Getting across the key message of Abbeyfield Care Homes and what they can offer.

Abbeyfield Belfast start in 1960, its goal is to provide accomodation and support for the elderly. They have mulitple locations all around Northern Ireland, they are the parent organisation of Abbeyfield which was founded in London.

Their current website did not explain easily enough what they did, it didnt show off the houses and the unique reasons why someone should choose Abbeyfield. Glaze tendered and won the project to redesign the Abbeyfield Belfast website.

Simplifying the Site

When we took on this project the client had created a site map with multiple hierarchies. We soon realised that half of this was not neccessary. We sat with them and worked out a simple site map. We went through each section and looked at how we could have these on one page.

Focusing on the Accomodation

Abbeyfield have multiple beautiful, state of the art care homes around Belfast, from Belmont Road to the Lisburn Road. We set out to create a clear way for people to see all the information about the homes, then find out key information. This included Amenites, Team, The house and surrounding area. We integrated Walkscore which let people know what was in the area including shops & restaurants.

Making it Personal

Another key outcome when gathering the brief was to make the new Abbeyfield website personal. They did not want it to sound like a corporate company, they desired it to be approachable & friendly. We made sure to use real world members of the Abbeyfield team, and residents. We even worked with the North Regional College to help plan and create a video shown below.

Development & Testing

For the Abbeyfield project we quickly built out two to three prototypes of key sections of the site, we showed these to the client using Invision, once signed off we moved onto building out Mobile Optimised templates, the site uses WordPress as the Content Management System and training was provided for the stafff to update all aspects of the website themselves.
