Using the Knowledge Base Shopify App
AI agents are changing how people shop online. When shoppers use AI agents to search for products or ask about store policies, Shopify provides answers based on your store's catalog and settings. Knowledge Base lets you view how often your store's info is requested by AI agents and customize FAQs to ensure AI represents your brand accurately and highlights what makes your business unique. See what buyers are asking, so you can provide the answers they’re looking for.
We’ve already seen a noticeable increase in AI-generated queries after installing this app on a few test stores.
Robots.txt update for all Shopify Stores
Shopify recently updated its robots.txt file with new language addressing AI shopping agents. The addition states, "Checkouts are for humans. Automated scraping, 'buy-for-me' agents, or any end-to-end flow that completes payment without a final review step is not permitted." Following this change, Ilya Grigorik, Shopify's technical advisor to the CEO, clarified on X that this update didn't implement new rules but simply added comments directing developers to Checkout Kit for proper integration of checkout experiences.
Image ALT text can now be translated
We've made an improvement that allows translation of image ALT text into different languages. If you sell in different languages, you can translate image ALT text for all of your images to improve both accessibility and search engine optimisation for your online store.
Issue refunds to store credit when processing a return or exchange
Issuing store credit refunds for a return or exchange helps ensure that you keep cash flowing back into your business and improves customer retention.
Store credit can now be issued as a refund when you are processing a return. In the "Refund now" section, select "store credit" as the refund method. You also have the option to refund the order to a combination of original payment methods and store credit. In addition, you can choose whether you'd like to set an expiration date for the store credit.
Tracking the AI Marketing Attribution
One of the hottest topics in e-commerce is AI, and Shopify now offers marketing attribution tracking for AI interactions. This feature allows merchants to monitor which pages are being visited and which links are being clicked through AI platforms like ChatGPT, providing valuable insights into how AI is driving traffic to your store.
